My native language

In my life I have learned more than two languages.  My country has two languages and therefore, I had to learn two separate languages in my lifetime. In my country, Haiti, there are two languages.  I had to learn Creole my first language, also known as my mother’s tongue. Haiti’s official language however is French, which I learned in school.  Although creole is a language broken from French, English, and native African languages it was not too difficult to learn.  It was easier off course to learn creole which is my mother’s tongue, for it comes naturally.  French was also not too difficult to learn for creole and the French language are very similar.   Many creole words come from the French Language.

I am originally from Haiti, and I came to the United States about four years ago.  I am currently learning English which is very different than French or Creole. Learning English and writing English is a bit difficult for me, for it is a new and a second even a third language.  I prefer to read and write in French because it is the language I learned in High School and in College. French is a beautiful romance language, even novels and romance sounds better.  In French the grammar and verbs are different.  The verbs are much more and a bit more difficult.  However, I am very comfortable with that language to read and write, but creole is the language I speak the most. In Haiti French is spoken and learned, creole is spoken at home, it is not taught, for it is not the official language of the country.

For articles to read, I like using English on Facebook and the internet. It is easier to understand, to see and to learn.  The like to also write in English, even to write emails is getting easier for me in English.  I like to write to my family and friends in French, so they can understand me better.  In academics and many business documents, I prefer to write in English.  Business partners and essays documents are more understanding in English.  My writing ability is not yet better in English as it is in French.  I believe as I learn English more in the years to come, I will be s comfortable with English in writing and reading as I am in French or even Creole my mother’s tongue.
